Welcome to Cara's Ear Care

Hello, I'm Cara, a Retired Nurse.

I qualified as a Nurse in 2007 and became a staff nurse working on a Cardiac Ward. From there, I became a Community Nurse for eight years, and in 2015 I began my nursing life as a Practice Nurse in a GP Surgery, eventually becoming the Lead Practice Nurse. During this time, part of my role was ear care for patients, primarily utilising the then common irrigation method.

In November 2021 I completed my Microsuction training at University Hospital Sussex NHS Trust in association with British Academy of Audiology. I then ran regular Microsuction clinics at different GP surgeries.

I began this private service in December 2022 under the banner of EarForYou West Sussex as I wanted to reach out to individuals who were primarily house bound and did not have access to ear care services. I knew that Community Nurses no longer offered this service. So EarForYou West Sussex was born. This was set up under a franchise model which sadly has recently ceased. My only real option to continue working without a break was to de-register from the NMC and start my new business from fresh. Rest assured there will be no change in the service offered and I remain fully insured.

Cara's Ear Care :

This service has evolved as GP services rarely offer microsuction or irrigation now and this is now my sole role.

I am passionate about hearing, life can be hard enough without losing your hearing too!!

WHAT IS EAR WAX & WHY DO WE NEED IT?

Earwax, also known as cerumen, is a natural substance produced by glands in the ear canal. It serves several important functions:

1. Protection: Earwax acts as a barrier, trapping dust, debris, and micro-organisms, preventing them from reaching the eardrum. This helps reduce the risk of infections.

2. Lubrication: It keeps the ear canal moist, preventing dryness and irritation. This lubrication helps to maintain the health of the skin in the ear.

3. Cleaning: Earwax has a self-cleaning mechanism. As it naturally moves out of the ear canal, it carries away dead skin cells and other debris, helping to keep the ear clean.

4. Antimicrobial Properties: Earwax contains compounds that can help inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, providing an additional layer of protection against infections.

While earwax is beneficial, excessive buildup can lead to blockage or discomfort, which may require removal.
